World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Upgrades to an item are a way to increase the stats of an item. Depending on the type of upgrade, it can boost an item's Rarity or Mark Level and boost additional stats.
Each item comes with a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the price of the next item by a certain amount.
Item Level
The value of an item's base stats increase when it is upgraded. The value is the sum of all the leveled up benefits (attack, magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be expensive, depending on who you hire and what you decide to do. This is because of how many perks need to be replaced in order for the item to be upgraded.
It can also be used to enforce gating requirements when queueing for raids, dungeons and scenarios. It is also used as a gating requirement while queueing for dungeons, raids and scenarios, and to limit the amount of PvP gear that a player can wear (since PvP is capped at an lower level). Players can view their average level of items on their character sheet.
Using the item level can help players compare the strength of equipment when they decide to buy or sell. It's an indicator of the item's condition and its quality. The level of an item can be used to evaluate items when looking at the inventory of a vendor.
On PC, you can check the level of the item by pressing ALT or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will show the item's full description, including ilvl. You can also find it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel into chat.
There are many theories about how the item level is calculated. One theory is that the item level is a numerical value derived from a formula that determines the amount an item's stats are worth. It is based on the fact that different benefits are valued differently and that gems in sockets boost the value of the item. This process can result in a calculated amount for the item's ilvl which is usually close to the actual Blizzard level of the item.
However, this is not the only factor that determines the ilvl of an item, because the level of the region the item is dropped into can change the value of its stats, such as by adding a level to its haste or crit rating. This means that items that drop at higher levels will have higher ilvl than those from lower-level instances.
Item Stats
Stats on an item are a significant component of what determines the value of an item for players. The game utilizes them in various ways to encourage players not to restrict themselves to a particular weapon, and to encourage players to experiment with other weapons. The stat mods of a weapon boost the base stats. These stat mods are then enhanced by the player's level.
The upgrades to items add by boosting certain stats on the item. The upgrade costs are determined by the rarity of the item. An item that is white or grey for instance, will only be upgraded once however, items that has rare tiers can be upgraded several times at higher prices.
Another method of altering the stats on an item is to use affixes. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player and come in a variety of sizes and shapes. Affixes can provide the item additional damage, add a special ability to the item (such as reviving dead or cutting down the duration of cooldowns) or make the item unique by adding a special name to the item.

In addition to Rerolling affixes and rerolls, players can select which of the available stats to keep on an item when it is upgraded. The range of stats is determined by the item's level. However each item will contain at least one stat in the same range, unless it's a unique item or an item that has a God Roll from a boss in a raid.
Another thing that could change is the possibility of upgrading equipment without having to reroll attachments, or pick which stats to increase. Like item upgrader , this must be done per item and the interface for item comparison will not show all possible stats at once.
Item Luck
A player's Luck stat stacks up to increase the chances of item discoveries as well as the properties that appear on loot drops and the intensity of the properties. It doesn't, however directly impact damage or the ability to upgrade items. item upgrader gives players the chance to upgrade their gear in earlier waves and is therefore more beneficial in early game runs than later ones because most players value higher weapon scaling and defenses over raw damage gains.
In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the probability of success when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This isn't to be confused with the Blacksmith’s overall upgrade chances, which increase with each item level. These can also be increased with the use of anti-materials such as a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.
Armor, shields and weapons have an initial Luck value of 40. These items can then be enhanced with golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the material of the item) to give +40 Luck or to increase the existing Luck of an item, up to 140.
Additionally, certain items, like the Hollow infused weapon can be outfitted to increase the damage of any damage-dealing skill by five percent. These items can be purchased in the shop or crafted with the right ingredients.
Item Failure
Upgrades to items are expensive and not all upgrades will succeed. However, there are some cash shop items that allow players to increase their chances of success or even prevent themselves from losing an item if the upgrade fails.
The rate of success of an upgrade can be seen in the Honing UI. The percentage is the chances of completing the upgrade successfully, and it can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limits to how much the success rates can be improved and the probability of a failed upgrade cannot exceed 100%..
The performance of an can be affected by the Luck of that item. All items have a base success rate of 25% and every item that has Luck increases that chance by an additional five percent.
The upgrade overlays of the item are displayed above items in the inventory. This could obscure enchantment effects and other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
